Who we are

Wish-Birthday.com is an independently run website. We are the controller of any personal data described below. For anything relating to this policy, or to exercise any of the rights set out further down, email us at contact@wish-birthday.com and we will reply within one month.

We are a small independent operation, not a company with a compliance department. We have written this policy in plain language because that is what it is for.

What we collect

Information you give us

If you email us or submit a birthday wish, we hold your email address and the content of your message so that we can reply and, where relevant, credit you. We do not add you to a mailing list without your explicit agreement.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our server logs record your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, the page that referred you and the pages you visit. We use this to understand which pages are useful, to diagnose faults and to protect the site from abuse.

What our tools do not collect

This is worth stating plainly, because it is unusual. The age calculator, zodiac finder, countdown, wish generator, name-on-cake generator, card maker and invitation maker all run entirely in your browser. The names, dates of birth and messages you type into them are never transmitted to our servers and are never stored by us. Close the tab and they are gone.

Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies that make the site work. They store no personal data and are not used for tracking. Your own cookie preference is kept this way, so we do not ask again on every visit.

We do not currently run analytics or advertising. No tracking cookie is set by this site, and nothing you do here is shared with an advertising network. If that changes we will name the provider on this page and ask for your agreement before anything non-essential is set.

You can review or change your choices at any time using Your privacy choices in the footer of every page. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we detect it and apply an opt-out automatically without asking you.

Legal basis for processing

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, we process personal data on the following bases:

• Legitimate interests — operating and securing the site, and understanding aggregate usage.
• Consent — non-essential cookies, personalised advertising, and any mailing list. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legitimate interests — responding to an enquiry you have sent us.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• have inaccurate data corrected
• have your data deleted
• object to or restrict processing
• withdraw consent previously given
• lodge a complaint with your data protection regulator

If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA additionally give you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under the CPRA. There is no advertising on this site at present. If we ever introduce it, this page will say so before it happens, and the opt-out in the footer will apply. We do not knowingly share the personal information of anyone under 16.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@wish-birthday.com. We will respond within one month, and will ask you to verify your identity before we act on a request.

How long we keep data

Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and then for up to two years in case you contact us again. Server logs are retained for a shorter period. Analytics data is retained according to the provider's own retention settings.

International transfers

Our hosting and analytics providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EEA, it is transferred under safeguards recognised by the relevant authorities, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email contact@wish-birthday.com and we will delete it.

Third-party links

We link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and this policy does not cover them.

Changes to this policy

We update the date at the top of this page whenever this policy changes materially. Please check back occasionally.
